Here’s an idea for how your local group can strike while it’s hot - on the hottest day.

What you can do?

On the hottest day people will be showing they are on Heat Strike in all sorts of ways, so why not shout it from the roof tops with a banner drop!

Heatwaves are a good time for mobilisation because people are ready to act when they can feel and see the deadly effects of the climate crisis. A banner drop is a great way to get the message out in your local community, local press, and on social media.

Ideas on how to do it

Anyone who wants to organise a few mates to make and drop a banner can do this.

  1. Form a Banner Drop crew

Anything from two to five or more people is great depending on the size of your banner. Your mates or your local climate group are a great place to start!

  2. Choose your location

Go for a location with high footfall or traffic - you want as many people to see your banner as possible. Another way that people will see it is on social media so choose a location where you’ll be able to get a good photo!

We think having banners on piers across the UK will create iconic images, and help get our message in the national press. Why not drop your banner from a pier. You could even take a photo of you all holding it in the sea if you fancy cooling off after.

  3. Make your banner

There are a couple of suggested banner designs below. Remember you want your banner to be big enough for people to read as they pass by or in a photo. Click here for a helpful banner drop briefing from Extinction Rebellion.

  4. Look after yourself and your crew

Remember, it’s going to be really hot so you might want to plan your banner drop for early in the morning.

  5. Take photos!

Don’t forget to take photos of your banner drop and share them on social media with #HeatStrike #TooHotToWork
