On the hottest day: Strike while it’s hot

1. Heat Strike

When the hottest day is on the way, we’ll send out the signal. On the hottest day stay safe and, if you can, stay home. Talk to your friends, family, colleagues about what’s happening and share the strike on social media or put up a Heat Strike poster in your window.

Use #HeatStrike and #TooHotToWork and link to the website heatstrike.uk on social media.

You can find the poster and more social media images below.

If it’s unsafe to work, you have a legal right to refuse to work. If you would like to exercise your right to refuse work under Section 44 - here’s how. We recommend joining a union ahead of time, in case your employer disputes your rights.

Some employers will not reasonably expect you to travel or work in extreme heat that poses a risk to safety. However if your employer doesn’t make reasonable adjustments you do have a right to refuse to work under Section 44 - find out more here.

Being a member of a union can give you greater protection and support at work, to improve measures at work to tackle the heat, or defend your right to use section 44 when temperatures go over a safe limit at work. Find a union today - before the heat strikes.
