What you can do?
On your lunch break, gather your union members together, and take a photo outside you workplace, holding heat strike placards, banners, and union banners or flags. Share your photos on social media to show your support for the strike, and demand a maximum working temperature while bosses and the government can feel the heat.
Ideas on how to do it
- First gather a group together, and get yourselves some Heat Strike placards, posters, or make your own. Find more info on our union members page to help you talk to your union about why this matters and pass a Heat Strike motion
- **Sign up** to get the signal to strike. We’ll e-mail you when the hottest day is predicted. That’s a great time to rally your group together and get prepared
- On the hottest day, if you are unable to leave work, tell everyone what time to take their lunch break and where to meet. If lunch time isn’t possible, how about 15 mins before work?
- Gather together outside, keep cool, and talk to colleagues or management about why we need to set a maximum working temperature to protect workers from the effects of the climate crisis.
- You could have the Heat Health and Safety poster to show colleagues. Or make a Heat Strike banner or placard to hold with your union flags. Find resources you can download and print in this flatpack.
- Don’t forget to take photos of your walk out and share them on social media - use #HeatStrike #TooHotTooWork
